Kelechi Iheanacho in Transfer Tug-of-War as Celtic Race Against Deadline

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has become the center of a dramatic transfer battle, with Celtic pushing to finalize his signing before the Europa League registration deadline tonight.

The 28-year-old forward, who recently left Sevilla as a free agent, has already reached a verbal agreement with the Scottish champions. Reports suggest Celtic have tabled a two-year contract with the option of a third season, a deal that would bring much-needed experience and attacking depth to their frontline.

Rival Interest Emerges
While Celtic are confident of securing Iheanacho’s signature, they face late competition. Turkish club Samsunspor and several Saudi Pro League sides are also making moves for the Nigerian international, hoping to hijack the deal at the final hour.

Transfer experts believe Celtic’s urgency comes from UEFA’s deadline, which requires all eligible players to be registered today in order to feature in this season’s Europa League group stage. Failure to seal the deal on time would mean Iheanacho could not participate in European competition until after January.

Iheanacho’s Career So Far
Iheanacho began his European career with Manchester City, winning the Premier League before moving to Leicester City, where he lifted the FA Cup in 2021. After leaving Leicester, he had a short stint in Spain with Sevilla, but limited game time prompted his decision to move on.

The Nigerian striker also boasts a strong record for the Super Eagles, with over 40 caps and appearances in major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations.

What It Means for Celtic
If completed, Iheanacho’s arrival would provide Celtic with a proven finisher to partner Kyogo Furuhashi up front. Manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously coached Iheanacho during his Leicester days, is reportedly a key figure behind the move.

With the clock ticking, all eyes are now on Glasgow. Will Celtic finalize the deal in time, or will late rival bids derail their plans?
