I was terrified of public speaking.
So I volunteered to present at a tech conference. In front of 2,000 people.
I threw up 3 times before going on stage. Then I fainted. Twice.
When I finally started speaking, I accidentally shared my screen showing my private folder labeled "Definitely Not Cat Videos."
It was full of cat videos.
The audience laughed. I kept going.
Then my pants fell down.
More laughter. I still kept going.
By the end, I got a standing ovation. Five job offers. And a modeling contract for pants with better elastic.
Six months later, I was keynoting at Google. My pants stayed up this time.
Last week, my biggest client asked why they should trust me with their $50M project.
I showed them the viral video of my pants falling down while teaching coding.
"Anyone who can keep presenting while pantless can handle anything," they said.
They signed immediately.
The truth is, success isn't about being fearless. It's about being terrified and doing it anyway.
Even if your pants betray you.
(Update: The client just doubled the budget. They want me to present pantless at their board meeting.)
