BREAKING: Qataris Win Man United Takeover Race
After eight months of takeover negotiations, several media outlets are reporting that the Glazer family have agreed to sell Manchester United to Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
'The Sun' reported on Monday that the result of the race between Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, could be announced this week, and now it appears it has.
The first to report the news was Qatari outlet, 'Al-Watan', which is owned by Sheikh Jassim's father. The outlet published that the Qatari bid was successful, with the owners accepting the offer for 100% of the club. Qatari news outlets have remained fairly quiet about the takeover, which could suggest there is some credibility to the news.
American outlet 'CNBC' reported that after the story broke, shares in Manchester United jumped 26% on the New York Stock Exchange and 'Sport Bible' published that the final offer came in at around £5.2 billion, with an extra £800 million proposed for investement on top of that.
